The Disease of Addiction

The Disease of addiction or illness is split into different sections. What most people don't realise is that it is split in a very specific way. Let's look at what the Disease means around recovery. "A Condition That Separates Me from Health" Which means its "Spiritual, Mental and Physical” On page XXVI in the book it very clearly stipulates that "We Were Maladjusted to Life" which means, we cannot cope with any Social Event or Situation. So it starts off with what we call a SPIRITUAL MALADY. When this happens it sets off a chain of behaviours where we become Restless, Irritable and Discontented, so basically we become, Uneasy, Easily annoyed and Never Satisfied within ourselves. With these behaviour changes a person will start to become Dishonest, Manipulative, Fearful, Intimidating, Resentful, and Vengeful Etc.  This is where people usually relapse before they pick up a drink or drug as the illness is now actively being fed with defect changes.

Then we move onto the "Mental Obsession -Overriding Thoughts" this is when we usually find ourselves in serious danger, as we have no mental defence against that first drink or drug. We then look at the last part of the illness, what happens when we put a drink or drug inside of us. This is called the "Physical Allergy- Abnormal Reaction" when we change a natural emotion with a substance, it sets off a phenomenon of Craving, and so no matter how much we want to stop, we are chasing something that is beyond our mental control. It’s not that we cannot stop; it means we are unable to stop because of a craving that is so powerful it separates us from reality.
